Yesterday The Nut Job premiered in cinemas across the US. The action-comedy animation is about an outsider (by choice or behavior) squirrel name Surly who is forced to survive through the winter in the city. And Surly isn’t the creature that will take the hard road in surviving, instead he is planning to rob a Nut Store (hence the cool word play The Nut Job).
It is in the process of trying to save his life and the lives of his former park community that Surly gains the sociable and likeable characteristics and fit in with the rest of the animals.
The trailer looks funny, albeit not hilarious but I would definitely go and see this movie.
One interesting question that the movie poses is “do animals have their own anti-sociable, unlikable fellows of their own just like humans?”. The store that Surly is trying to rob is in fact used from people who are trying to dig a tunnel to the nearby bank and rob it. That is the serious note of in other ways light comedy, not only that we have a symbolic human behavior shown through the actions of the animals but also a parallel “true” view of today’s society.
Surly is voiced by Will Arnett, Liam Neeson, Katherine Heigl and Brendan Fraser also lend their voices to various animals. Directed by Peter Lepeniotis.
