The ceremony went rather predictable, few jokes and laughs a singing thank you here and there, few selfies and pizzas :). The host of the 86th Oscar ceremony was Ellen DeGeneres that most would agree did much better job than MacFarlane last year.
At the end of it this is the final score:
12 Years A Slave won 3 Oscars including the one for Best Film and Best Actress in Supporting Role.
Gravity won 7 Oscars out of 10 nominations, most of them for technical achievements and the one for Best Director, Alfonso Cuaron.
Dallas Buyers Club won 3 Oscars including Best Actor in leading Role, Best Actor in Supporting Role and for Makeup and Hairstyling.
Frozen won 2 Oscars, one for Best Animated Feature Film and one for Best Original Song. The Great Gatsby also won 2 Oscars for Best Production and Costume Design.
I am not sure if a movie with just two Oscars deserves to get the third one for Best Movie of the year, but there you go. To me it looks like either Gravity or Dallas Buyers Club deserve that one far better than 12 Years A Slave.
American Hustle (with 10 nominations) and The Wolf Of Wall Street (with 5 nominations) got nothing.
It was logical that the Academy would try to please the crowds so they split the two most important awards at the Oscars. Best direction for Gravity and Best Film for 12 Years a Slave.
The competition here was mostly imagined by mass media and internet hype. Dicaprio didn’t stand a chance in this.
In a really tough competition including an incredible Meryl Streep (Ossage County) Cate Blanchett wins the Oscar for Best Actress.
This was a no-brainer, Leto totally deserved it.
