Interstellar first official trailer

Behold, the first official trailer of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, a science fiction movie based on the premise that humans will eventually and inevitable spread out through the galaxy, and not just because we can but because we have to in order to save humanity.

As we can see from the trailer Matthew McConaughey plays an engineer slash pilot and he is asked to save humanity not by engineering but by piloting, to the stars, to the next planet that would be habitable using a new-found wormhole technology that enables humans for interstellar travel.

On internet forums I’ve read comparisons that this film will be this generation’s 2001:A Space Odyssey, but to me it looks like an exaggeration just because Christopher Nolan is directing this. Let’s not forget that it’s his brother’s script he is directing. Nepotism usually does not end with good results, but maybe I am wrong.

The trailer gives me strange vibes from several films put together, mainly Prometheus, Event Horizon and Mission to Mars.

Looks like Interstellar has the opposite storyline of Prometheus which is dealing with humanity’s origin on Earth, while Interstellar is pointing towards the future, where will be one day.

On a personal note: I didn’t like the reference to Murphy’s law, too explanatory as if underestimating the audience intelligence.

Interstellar also stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Wes Bentley and Michael Caine along Matthew McConaughey.
