10 TV Shows you should be watching (in case you aren’t)

There were many great TV shows that premiered last year and luckily all of them are still on air, sort of. The list below contains six shows that have only one season so far, which means it’s a great time to start watching them without spending a lot of time to catch up on the stories. Also of all ten shows only one is currently airing, while the others have just finished or the next season is just around the corner.

1. Fortitude

Fortitude is an intense psychological thriller/drama set on Svalbard. With elements of fiction, the most intriguing part of Fortitude are the characters. Living in a small settlement on the remote northern islands they all cope with the cold, dark days and the lonely surroundings in a different way.
You will love the landscapes though, striking, sharp and clean, as the murky backgrounds of the character unravel along with the mystery of the unsettling murders in the small community of 700 people and 3000 polar bears.
Starring: Sofie Gråbøl, Richard Dormer, Luke Treadaway, Veronica Ehegui, Stanley Tucci, Jessica Raine and Sienna Guillory.
Status: Waiting for season 2, October 2016.

2. The Expanse

Based on the books by S.A. Correy, The Expanse is the latest SyFy space opera. Regarded by many as the best sci-fi TV series currently, The Expanse will offer you everything you’d expect from a show in this category.
Set in the 23rd century, where humans have colonized the entire solar system, The Expanse will give you space ships, human colonies on Mars, holographic phones, incredible medicine advancements, space politics and lovable characters.

3. Mr. Robot

Mr. Robot is a tv show meant to appeal to hackers and geeks. Rami Malek plays the computer whiz Elliot Anderson who is deeply troubled about the way large corporations control the world. He is also a drug addict and an employee in a cyber security company. His passion to destroy the largest internet corporation turns into reality when he meets the mysterious hacker who calls himself Mr. Robot.

You will be blown away by Rami Malek’s portrayal of the anti-social programmer. Also take note of his monologues, which are a very clear and accurate critique of today’s internet self-obsessed society.
Starring: Rami Malek, Carly Chaikin, Portia Doubleday and Christian Slater.
Status: Waiting for season 2. Summer 2016.

4. Fargo

Based on the cult film by the brothers Cohen, Fargo is the most ingenious tv show lately. Storyline, dialogues, characters all fit in together in what is nearly 10 hours of a cinematic masterpiece.
Set in the town Fargo in both season so far, a merely accidental event starts a chain reaction of murders and dramatic situations with an unexpected outcome.
You will love every moment of it. Billy Bob Thornton is magnificent.
Starring: Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Colin Hanks and Allison Tolman in season one. Patrick Wilson, Ted Danson, Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons in season two.
Status: Waiting for season 3, sometime in 2017.

5. Narcos

The Netflix series is about the infamous Medellin drug cartel and its leader Pablo Escobar. It tells the true story about the rise and fall of the notorious kingpin and sadly only the rise of cocaine. Told from the viewpoints of Escobar and the DEA agent Steve Murphy the series depicts various political events during the 80s closely connected to the drug trafficking.

While not being a documentary it certainly gives great reality vibe.

Starring: Wagner Moura, Boyd Holbrook, Pedro Pascal and Joanna Christie.
Status: Waiting for season 2. Fall 2016.

6. Outlander

Based on the books by Diana Gabaldon, Outlander is your newest obsession about Scotland and the highlands. Set in the 18th century Outlander entwines history and fiction in the best way possible. The storyline revolves around Claire Randal, a WWII nurse who just after the war, during her honeymoon by accidents goes through a time portal to 1743 in the middle of a tumultuous period of the Scottish history.
You will love Scotland.

7. Sense8

The science fiction series features a diverse cast from all around the world, from the US across Europe to Korea. Sense8 is telling the story of eight people who suddenly finds themselves telepathically connected in what is called a cluster, sharing all thoughts and feelings with one another. Representing the future of the human kind, there’s also an organization who is hunting them and others like them.
You will love the split scenes, during what is called a “visit.”

Starring: Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt, Bae Doona, Jayme Clayton, Brian J. Smith, Aml Ameen, Tina Desai, Miguel Angel Silvestre with Daryl Hannah and Naveen Andrews.
Status: Waiting for season 2. June 2016.

8. Vikings

Highly acclaimed, Vikings tells the story of the mythical Ragnar Lothbrok and his conquests. Created by History, Vikings is probably the most accurate historical depiction of the brave northmen and their way of life. Even though Ragnar is the main character he is also the most fictional one, while characters like his brother Rollo are depicted as close as possible to their known historical facts and events. Ragnar’s wife Lagertha will be your new hero.
You will love the story and the battle scenes. You’ll also wish to go back in time and be a viking!Starring: Travis Fimmel, Katheryn Winnick, Clive Standen, Alissa Sutherland, Alexander Ludwig, George Blagden.
Status: Currently airing season 4.

9. Penny Dreadful

Named after the “penny dreadfuls,” short cheap horror stories published in London in the 19th century, Penny Dreadful mixes a bunch of classic characters and monsters in one poetically crafted storyline. Frankenstein and his monster, werewolves in London, vampires and Dorian Grey, and the beautiful, mystical Vanessa Ives, some of them good and some of them evil, but all of them public domain characters.

The dual nature of pretty much everything is the one theme that prevails the show.
You will enjoy the philosophical, poetically written dialogues. You’ll be surprised how gentle and caring “monsters” can be, and cruel and unforgiving at the same time.

Starring: Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Rory Kinnear, Timothy Dalton, Harry Treadaway and Billie Piper.
Status: Waiting for season 3. May 2016.

10. Rick and Morty

Tired of The Simpsons? Miss Futurama? Rick and Morty is the show for you then! It is an animated TV series following the adventures and mishaps of Rick and his nephew Morty in space. And parallel universes too. Rick is the inventor and careless adventurer while Morty is the teenager that balances the craziness going on in his grandfather’s head. They are almost constantly fighting each other, but can’t live without one another, where Rick mistakes Morty is there to correct him and vice versa.
You will love Rick and his way of thinking. And the humour. You will be surprised by the emotional breakdown.
Starring: Rick and Morty, voiced by Justin Roiland.
Status: Waiting for Season 3. End of 2016.
