…and it was weird!?
Firstly, Seth MacFarlane was the host and he wasn’t really all that funny, let’s say it was OK, but someone should have told him he isn’t hosting someones Roast. There were plenty of times were the audience didn’t know how to react, and walking of after “the next presenter doesn’t need an introduction” was so “decade ago” joke. He spent the entire ceremony clearly wondering if people thought that he and his jokes were funny. Well they weren’t. But his singing was good, the “Loser Song” at the end almost fixed everything else before….. well not really.
Final word on is hosting, it was predictable up to the point where gay jokes, jew jokes and “so old” jokes were part of the humor.
The entire show was also weirdly paced, the award for Best Director was too early (didn’t get the deserved attention if you ask me), different award winners got different time to speak (otherwise a shark would eat them), too many presenters for one award and just generally “all too many” things happening or not happening. The theme of the 85th Oscars was music and yet not all songs for Best Original Song гот the proper treatment. What’s up with that? Seriously? (BTW Scarlett Johansson singing a song for Chasing Ice, I didn’t know that, it was pretty good too bad it wasn’t a live performance and too short).
For some unknown mystical reason the musical Chicago kept turning up during the Oscars. I mean…WHY?
BUT THE WEIRDEST PART that happened at the end while presenting for Best Motion Picture of the year was the appearance of Michele Obama live from the White House. She even announced the winner. So long was the show I was expecting for someone to wake me up and tell me it’s just a dream. I am still kind of wondering if it really did happen. (Talk about Oscars politics)
Other appearances worth mentioning were those of William Shatner as Captain Kirk, Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum dancing later approved by Dustin Hoffman, Paul Rudd and Melissa McCarthy presenting, than the tribute to 50 Years of Bond movies.
Of course Adele’s performance must be mentioned. Jennifer Lawrence tripped when going up the stairs to accept her Oscar for best actress in lead role and made a joke about it before thanking everybody. it was probably the highlight of this year’s Oscars. Daniele Radcliffe and Kristen Stewart were presenting together and K. Stewart was limping, just thought I bring that up.
When it comes to the winners I got to say the academy chose good this year. There were no surprises but no obvious winners also (except for Daniel Day-Lewis for best actor in lead role), it was really a choice among equals at least for the major Oscars awards like best director (Ang Lee) best actress or best film even which was Argo.
And here’s a list of some of the winners:
Best Film: Argo
Best director: Ang Lee (Life of Pi)
Best actor in lead role: Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln)
Best actress in lead role: Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook)
Best actor in supporting role: Cristoph Waltz (Django Unchained)
Best actress in supporting role: Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables)
Beset animated feature: Brave
Best animated short: Paperman.
Best foreign film: Amour
Totals:
Life of Pi – 4 Oscars
Argo – 3 Oscars
Les Miserables – 3 Oscars
Lincoln, Skyfall and Django Unchained – 2 Oscars
Amour, Brave, Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty and Anna Karenina – 1 Oscar.
