Disney’s Maleficent is headed for some serious Box Office results, even though audiences were impressed with the first trailer, with the second trailer Disney really hit the spot. The beloved “Once Upon A Dream” from the original “Sleeping Beauty” (sung by Mary Costa ft Bill Shirley) reappears in Maleficent, but this time it’s dark and gloomy befitting for, well, the main character Maleficent, and as a bonus it’s sung by none other but Lana Del Rey. How appropriate and haunting!
It really adds material to Maleficent’s conniving nature.
The internet is buzzing with the news, on youtube if you start typing “once upon a dream…” it automatically adds “lana del rey” now. That was fast.
Here, treat yourself with the original, or at least compare. Even though obvious, but the version below sung by Mary Costa is the symbol of Aurora’s purity and naivety. Now if you listen to Lana Del Rey’s version it is stunning how the same lyrics feel corrupted and up to no good. You can rad a little more on Maleficent true nature here.
The anti-fairytale stars Angelina Jolie as Maleficent herself, Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora and Juno Temple as Thistletwit, the pixie.
Directed by Robert Stromberg, Maleficent premieres on May 30, 2014.
