The Maze Runner is an upcoming sci-fi movie based on the best seller by James Dashner. Directed by Wes Ball, The Maze Runner stars Dylan O’Brien (from Teen Wolf), Kaya Scodelario and Will Poulter (The Voyage of The Dawn Threader).
The plot of The Maze Runner revolves around Thomas who is put in a massive maze of concrete walls along with other boys. No one there remembers anything of their life outside the maze except the name. The boys live in the middle of the maze in a place they call the Glade and each month a new boy arrives. Each member of the group is assigned a job so they could survive in the maze. One of the jobs is a runner, which includes running through the maze and making maps so eventually they could escape the place. Of course the maze is filled with quite scary and deadly creatures that roam at night. Things change after the first girl, Teresa comes into the maze shortly after Thomas’s arrival.
To me it looks like this is some kind of a perverted version of Peter Pan where Peter is thrown into the Hunger Games’ arena. The boys in the arena would be the lost boys of Neverland that are unwilling to leave the place, but in The Maze Runner the boys are actually trying to escape the maze. The Hunger Games reference is in the maze itself which represents the arena where it’s practically impossible to survive.
I spent about half an hour reading the plot of the books trilogy (The Maze Runner is followed by The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure) and either Wikipedia editors did a pour job on explaining the plot of the books or the plot is kind of messy and difficult to understand.
The maze Runner is scheduled to premiere in September 2014.
