After the four hour movie premiered, fans have been praising The Snyder Cut all over. I loved the movie very much, however watching it, there are few things that are still not as clear in my mind.
With so much added scenes, you ‘d be thinking what could have been missed, and it is not something that is missing, just feels like it needs a little bit of explanation or a theory at least.
The sleeping mother boxes
The movie starts with Superman’s death from Batman v Superman, while Superman dies with a loud cry, that cry echos across the world and seemingly wakes up the mother boxes.
However, later in the movie it is discussed that it was not specifically the cry that wakes them up instead it is Superman’s absence on Earth that awakens the boxes, or him no longer being a threat to them or their master.
This would mean that Steppenwolf had an unfortunate timing, had he come to earth before Superman’s arrival he would have managed in his mission.
This also brings the question why the boxes were not activated before Superman arrival on Earth, and he had been on Earth only few decades, while the boxes are at least 5000 years possibly more.
Why did the mother boxes call out to Steppenwolf now? They had plenty of time before, or maybe he was not available before. And why Steppenwolf, since they were brought to Earth by Darkseid himself.
Darkseid forgetting Earth
Ok, I understand what the anti-life equation might be, but one thing that that is hard to understand is, how did Darkseid forgot where is the planet where he left the mother boxes and it is very much clear that he experiences that same awe as Steppenwolf did, when landing on Earth, he created the same Omega symbol when crashing down on earth with his spear, he must have known Anti-Life is on Earth.
Possible explanation is that the mother boxes were quiet all the time as there was always a hero on earth that could defeat their masters, so, Darkseid not sense the boxes. It is obvious though that the mother boxes can be wield by anyone who understands them and can be used for good too.
Still, very difficult to accept that Darkseid would forget the planet where he was defeated, probably for the first time and where he left behind the single most powerful weapon in the universe.
The Flash turns back time twice.
The first time occurs when they are dropping the mother box in Superman’s space ship. Only for a second or less, but the mother box comes back up a little for The Flash to touch it.
This is in line with the parallel world/timelines that the Joker mentions in the epilogue dream.
Perhaps, this explains Batman’s premonition in part six of the movie, where all of a sudden Bruce tells Diana that Lois is the key, and not only for Superman, but “something darker.”
Does not explain though why Cyborg sees this future before he drops the box.
Before this happens, there isn’t any clues that he would do that, just a simple task of jump starting the mother box.
The second time he turns back time is in the end, after the mother boxes achieved the Unity, but this time he makes it clearly that he will be breaking “the rules” by doing so.
The Martian Manhunter knows more than he tells.
Lois Lane visits Superman’s monument everyday, so she would have been there on the day he was resurrected. Unless she wasn’t going to be and The Martian knew this so he went to Lois disguised as Martha Kent to encourage her to do the same thing that day and maybe even more, to get back to the daily planet.
Maybe it was just a way to add him to the movie and introduce him for possible future movies and sequels, otherwise, the plot would have worked all the same if it was the real Martha Kent too.
But it definitely shows that he has some intel into he bigger picture.
