Will Grogu come back in season 3 of The Mandalorian?

Posted on March 28, 2021March 28, 2021 by Slavco Stojanoski

It has been a while since the second season of The Mandalorian finished, and by the end everbody was in love with Baby Yoda, possibly because Baby Yoda was cute in a way that the actual Yoda could never be :).

Only three episodes to the finale, in Chapter 13: The Jedi, it was revealed that his name was Grogu, as told by Ahsoka, who was telepathically communicating with him, as up to that point, Mando was mostly doing the talking and presuming he was doing a good job, which he was.

Season 3 of The Mandalorian is suppose to get out somewhere at the beginning of 2022 and not much details are known about the story.

Now, will Grogu come back in season three of the Mandalorian?

No, Grogu will not come back and here is why we will not see him in season three:

1. His name, even when we found out his name, everybody was disappointed by the name, simply because it sounds so….unappealing. Maybe the reason behind this specific name, is that the writers planned him as a two season story arch, that will not be revisited. Giving him such a name is a way to distance the character from future seasons, making him less important as of course the main character, which is Mando.

2. The big ending, the show runners decided to end the story arch with non other but Luke Skywalker. At the time of the story, he is the greatest jedi in existence, you don’t just get him to come give him the baby and them take Baby Yoda away from him.

3. Not only it was a big ending, it was emotionally charged, if Baby Yoda would return to season three, that would make the season two finale meaningless, and the sad goodbye.

4. Related to point 2, The Mandalorian is set chronologically after Return of The Jedi when Luke was young. Bringing him back as CGI character would be costly. This is not a direct reason, as maybe Luke’s appearance can be avoided, perhaps in a plot-line where for some reason, Luke left Grogu and he was prevented to get back to him, so Mando would take over. This does not reflect good on Luke’s jedi abilities and his word to take care of Grogu.

In short, the season two finale, does not bode well for Grogu’s return in season three, apart maybe for a guest appearance.

Now, this is not exactly an informed answer, this is my best guess on the matter, but there is nothing that points to a good come back of Grogu in season three.
